Attainment and School Performance

At Woodlands Primary School, we are ambitious for every child. We want pupils to achieve highly academically while also developing the knowledge, confidence, independence and personal qualities they need for the next stage of their education.

Understanding our school performance

National assessment information provides one important measure of school performance. However, published attainment data should be understood within the context of our school and the pupils we serve.

Woodlands is a highly inclusive mainstream primary school. Our provision includes a large and growing Specialist Inclusion Base (SIB) provision for pupils with autism alongside a wide range of support for pupils with additional needs within mainstream classes.

Published national performance measures therefore provide an important, but not complete, picture of achievement at Woodlands.

We evaluate pupils' achievement over time and consider how successfully pupils develop the knowledge and skills identified within our curriculum. Leaders and governors use assessment information to identify strengths, address barriers to learning and ensure that pupils who are at risk of falling behind receive appropriate support.

Particular attention is given to the achievement of pupils who are disadvantaged, pupils with SEND and other pupils who may experience barriers to their learning.

Assessment at Woodlands

Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning. Teachers use assessment to establish what pupils know and understand, identify misconceptions and gaps in learning, and determine what pupils need to learn next.

Alongside statutory national assessments, teachers use appropriate formative and summative assessment throughout the curriculum. This enables us to identify pupils who may need additional support or greater challenge and to evaluate the impact of teaching and intervention.

Parents and carers receive information about their child's learning and attainment through our reporting arrangements and discussions with teachers.
