SEND Provision (Special Educational Needs and Disability)
Woodlands is a large, diverse maintained primary school providing education from the early years through to Year 6, alongside associated nursery and wraparound provision. Inclusion is not treated as a separate intervention: it is a whole-school responsibility reflected in leadership, curriculum, teaching, attendance, safeguarding, pastoral support, the learning environment and partnership with families.
Our approach is increasingly inclusive by design: we aim to anticipate commonly occurring and predictable needs, identify barriers early and strengthen ordinarily available provision so that children can receive effective support without unnecessary delay. This direction is consistent with the Department for Education's Inclusive Mainstream Fund guidance for 2026/27. It does not replace the school's statutory SEND duties.
We recognise that SEND, disadvantage, attendance, safeguarding, communication, wellbeing and other barriers can intersect. We therefore seek to understand the whole child rather than reducing a pupil to a diagnosis, label or funding category.
Woodlands has developed significant specialist provision within our mainstream school; our Specialist Inclusion Base, specialising in Communication and Interaction differences.
What is the Local Offer? (Cheshire West and Cheshire Local Authority)
Local Authorities and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for the children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) aged 0-25. Therefore the intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the area.
